Michelle Obama State Dinner Gown: Hit or Miss?

Michelle Obama State Dinner Gown:
Hit or Miss?

The Alexander McQueen dress Michelle Obama wore to the White House State Dinner for the Republic of China marked another fashion risk for the First Lady.

But was it one that hit or missed?

Dressed in a red petal print silk organza gown, Michelle Obama was both fashionably bold and diplomatic, as the brilliant red is a symbol of luck in Chinese culture:

Despite a visiting Chinese President and an A-list guest list, all eyes were on the First Lady, whose impact on the global fashion industry has been unrivaled.

Michelle Obama's Women's Conference Appearance

Michelle Obama's Women's Conference Appearance

As two of the most important females in the US, Michelle Obama and Maria Shriver took the stage at the Women’s Conference 2010 in Long Beach, CA on Tuesday (October 26).

The two First Ladies both looked lovely as they came out holding hands and sharing a few laughs while addressing the 14,000 attendees.

Shriver, who introduced Obama, noted that it was the last time she'd be standing before the crowd as the First Lady of California.

As she gave a farewell speech, Maria stood there and thanked her staff - along with her organizers - who have helped put on the conference for the last seven years.

As for what she'll do next? She told, "I'm going to let go of my need to jump into action, my need to have a perfect plan." (Hollywood Gossip)

Sorta hilariously charming, right? It's nice to know that even a superstar first lady has some duds in her closet. And she WAS building a house, after all.

Live From The Vivienne Tam Preso!

Hi y'all! I'm at the Vivienne Tam preso -- they have blogging stations set up! -- trying to figure out a way to get out of here with the green leather laser-cut dress with peek-a-boo fuschia-ness underneath -- that'll be difficult because it's on a live model, but I'm crafty. Will update pix in a hot min, when I get a hot min. Get ready to WEEP over all this red and purple smartness, and a red-orange tweed suit befitting Michelle O, 'kay? Kay!
